I Passed MCRTA - A Beginner Cloud Red Team Exam
TLDR: I passed CyberWarFare Labs' MCRTA exam. I found it very easy and firmly beginner level, but at the $29 discounted price I paid, it was a useful introduction to hands-on cloud attack paths.
I passed the Certified Multi-Cloud Red Team Analyst (MCRTA) from CyberWarFare Labs. My verified credential is here.
I was already working through Google Cloud certification material, including the professional-level certification, and wanted more hands-on practice with how cloud environments can be attacked. MCRTA gave me an introductory way to explore that across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.
For me, the exam was super easy. That is worth saying upfront: this is very much beginner material. I approached it with existing cloud study behind me, so someone starting from zero may have a different experience. I worked through the introductory material and practical paths in roughly a day.
What I learned
- Cloud identities: working with AWS roles, GCP service accounts, and Azure managed identities.
- Permissions and scope: checking what an identity can access and where its permissions apply.
- Attack paths: seeing how exposed credentials and application weaknesses can lead to cloud API access.
- Token audiences: understanding why Azure Resource Manager and Microsoft Graph need different tokens.
Was it worth it?
I paid $29 on discount, and at that price I thought it was a decent way to get some introductory attacking practice alongside my Google Cloud studies.
My advice: get it on discount and go in with the right expectations. It is a beginner exam. If you already have hands-on cloud red teaming experience, the material may be too basic for you. For me, it filled a useful gap between studying cloud security concepts and trying some attack paths myself.
